Terry Amburgey

Terry has three children that he is very proud of:

The youngest – What he calls his wild child – Cody Robert Amburgey just beginning his work life in Albany, New York. Cody is in the Lumber Industry and when he finally settles down will tap his tremendous potential. Cody has recently volunteered for the Marine Reserves. Although it goes against the logic of his parents and along with that the anguish and fear that follows. I am proud that he followed through with what he felt he needed to do. I pray he is not hurt in the future.

His daughter – Maureen Loretta Amburgey – who Terry says is his best looking and brightest is also just starting out in life. Life has thrown her a few curve balls but { B } as she is called is tough and will fight through them. [ B ] is back in school and doing well. Hopefully we will be able to add a section to this website of her work in the future. {B} is a brilliant photographer and hopefully in 2008 she will be able to continue her work

His Oldest Son – Terence Andrew Amburgey – is in the New York area working as an actor. His father likes to say Terence did not speak until he was three years old – but has not stopped talking since. You will soon be able to find Terry on this website in video format. One of the new features for 2008. Look for him at a movie theater or play near you.

Name: Terry Amburgey

Title: Fine Art Photographer & Poet

Terry is located on Long Island, New York. Mr. Amburgey was born in Detroit, Michigan. His parents were Jeannette Bailey Amburgey and Robert H. Amburgey from Hindman, Kentucky.

Mr. Amburgey’s stay in Detroit was very brief as his father was looking to return to Hindman, Kentucky. Terry's father found work on his way to Kentucky in Cincinnati, Ohio. Terry Amburgey was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio area. He graduated Greenhill’s High School in the suburbs of Cincinnati and was known more his athletic ability then for artistic ability. Although his artistic ability was well known by his teachers in his early years, but it was overshadowed by his athletic ability. Terry's athletic ability overshadowed his artistic ability because it was a means to buy for a college education. Artistically Terry was a straight A student who could not draw a lick. But his creative ability was admired by all his instructors in very field.

Athletics lead him to the University of Cincinnati where he earned a full scholarship for football. Terry’s athletic ability actually earned him scholarship offers at min. of 15 different colleges including, West Point Military Academy, Air Force Academy, Ball State University, University of Wyoming, Rutgers etc. etc.. Terry’s father forbid him from the Military Academies because this was during the height of the Vietnam War and his father a veteran of WWII did not want his to fight in an undeclared war.

Terry choose University of Cincinnati because at the time it offered a program that was in only offered at two Universities’ in the country. The program was called “ Foreign Affairs”. It trained you in international business and languages preparing you for a career in the United States Diplomatic Corp. Unfortunately That great plan was torn apart just as Terry received his Peace Corps assignment. The Peace Corps was going to be a break before graduate school at Georgetown University.

Terry had received his assignment country in the Peace Corp when financial difficulties became too much and a change of direction took place. That change leads him through a number of successful business opportunities with stays in Minnesota where two of his children were born, Michigan where his first child was born, Kentucky, back to Cincinnati and finally Long Island, New York.

It is New York that he took up Fine Art Photography. Although Terry revived his long silent artistic side in Cincinnati. It was in New York that his artistic past came back to its fullest extent. Terry is currently a member of the oldest CO OP Gallery on Long Island – B J Spoke Gallery - Huntington, New York. B J Spoke is located on the north shore of Long Island. Terry has also been a member of Agora Gallery in Manhattan. Terry has had his work on display not only in Manhattan and Long Island but also, Canada, Germany, Los Angeles, Cincinnati, etc etc. .
